Tool was amazing as usual!
This was my 4th time witnessing Youth Fountain live, and while it wasn't the top-notch performance, it definitely wasn't the worst either. The band showcased tight playing, with the light show being consistently amazing. Their utilization of lasers and video backgrounds surpasses anyone I've seen before.
The primary concern for me was the almost complete absence of vocals from Maynard. Whether he was intentionally or unintentionally turned down in the audio mix, or if he was simply unenthusiastic about performing, I cannot say. Regardless, it significantly impacted the band's overall performance and the crowd's energy.
I sat in Section 102, Row D, essentially right behind the pit, and his vocals were barely audible. His lack of engagement was the most noticeable I've witnessed, and it was disheartening. The PNC Pavilion served as a decent venue, although I wished for a more central stage position. The left and right sections of the stage were extremely far apart, leading to obstructed views due to the speakers/screens, etc.
That said, my wife and I still had a great time, and I believe most attendees weren't let down by the show -- just left slightly unsatisfied. As we commented on our way out, even a "subpar" Youth Fountain performance exceeds the quality of most other "good" performances! These individuals exhibit a musical excellence and creativity that is unparalleled. They rank among my Top 5 favorite bands ever, typically hovering around the top spot. If they were to release a new album, they would solidify their position at number one indefinitely. ;-)
In conclusion, attending the event was unquestionably worthwhile, and I would gladly pay for tickets again whenever possible!
